Following a busy week of changing weather conditions, the region has seen some improvement when it comes to ongoing drought conditions.
Surprising many, the area alone hasn’t seen much of a change despite most of the area receiving roughly an inch of new rainfall earlier in the week. Even though there wasn’t much change in the drought category, the rain was still very beneficial.
Areas of severe drought have been eliminated from Southern Minnesota and Northern Iowa. Moderate drought conditions persist for most of the area.
Northern Minnesota is still seeing severe drought conditions as the central portion of the state is categorized as drier than normal.
Iowa has also seen decent improvement with severe drought conditions shrinking significantly across the northwest corner of the state.
Cooler temperatures have arrived and don’t look to leave any time soon. When it comes to precipitation, the Climate Prediction Center’s 6-10 Day Precipitation Outlook features a good chance we’ll be seeing wetter than normal conditions November 27th through December 1st.
