USDA Reports that Corn and Soybean Harvest Has Started in MN & Iowa

The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service released the crop progress report for Minnesota and Iowa for the week ending September 15th.  Farmers started harvest of row crops as small grains harvest wrapped up.  Other fieldwork included chopping corn for silage.

In Minnesota, corn in or past the dough stage was 95%, 69% was in the dent stage, one week behind the five year average and 27% was mature.  Corn harvest has started with 1% complete.  Corn was rated 63% good to excellent, a 5% improvement from last week.  Iowa corn in or beyond the dent stage was 85%, 2 days behind average, with 41% mature, 2 days ahead of average and harvest has begun with 2% complete.  Iowa corn condition remained the same as last week at 77% good to excellent.

Soybeans in Minnesota are 61% coloring or beyond, 4 days behind average, with 23% dropping leaves and 1% harvested.  Minnesota soybeans were rated 66% good to excellent, a 4% increase from last week.  In Iowa, soybeans were 42% coloring, 2 days ahead of average.  Soybeans dropping leaves was at 31% and 1% has been harvested. Iowa’s soybeans were rated 77% good to excellent, a 1% drop from last week.
