The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service released the crop progress report for Minnesota and Iowa for the week ending July 28th. Field activities included small grain harvest, cutting and bailing hay and applying fungicides.
In Minnesota, corn silking was 63%, 4 days behind the 5 year average; 13% was in the dough stage and 58% of the corn was rated in good to excellent condition, remaining the same as last week. Iowa corn was 85% silking, 2 days ahead of average, 34% of corn was in the dough stage or beyond, 4 days ahead of average, 2% has reached the dent stage and 77% of corn was rated good to excellent compared to 75% last week.
Soybeans in Minnesota are 73% blooming, 5 days behind the 5 year average, with 33% setting pods and 60% of soybeans rated in good to excellent condition, a 3% improvement from last week. In Iowa, soybeans were 83% blooming, with 43% setting pods, 1 day behind the 5 year average. Soybeans in Iowa were rated 76% good to excellent, improving by 2% from last week.
