State lawmakers will be back at the Minnesota Capitol just over a month from now for the 2022 Legislative Session, which isn’t supposed to be about the budget but could well turn out that way because of the nearly $8 billion surplus.
Republican Julie Rosen, from Fairmont, who chares the Senate Finance Committee, cautions her Democratic colleagues that lawmakers have already set a $52 billion budget, which ten years ago was $34 billion, “I am not in the mood, nor are my caucus, of doing ongoing investments where there is a tremendous amount of growth in our state budget.”
Democrats are eyeing the massive projected budget surplus, a good part of which is already in the bank, as an opportunity to make what they term important investments in Minnesota’s future, including education and infrastructure.
