Blue Earth Council Approves Having Current City Staff Handle City Administrator Duties Until a New Administrator is Hired

At the Blue Earth City Council meeting on Tuesday, the Council discussed the options for filling some of City Administrator Mary Athey’s duties after her resignation takes effect in March.

The options would be hiring an interim administrator or existing staff handling the duties, with Public Works Director Jamie Holland taking on more responsibilities until a permanent City Administrator is hired.

The estimated cost for an Interim Administrator would be roughly $60,000 to fill the void until Athey’s replacement would take over.  Mayor Rick Scholtes recommended that if the council decided to move forward using existing staff that Holland receive $10 more an hour to his current hourly wage from the time of Athey’s resignation until a new City Administrator takes over.

The Council approved having existing staff handle city affairs and Holland’s temporary pay increase with 6 for it and 1 opposed.
