The Blue Earth City Council held a special council meeting Thursday afternoon with one item on the agenda, a personnel update.
The update came in the form of the resignation of City Administrator Mary Athey. In Athey’s formal letter of resignation, she states that after much reflection, she has accepted a job in the private sector and that her final day as City Administrator will be March 21st, 2025.
After accepting Athey’s resignation, the council went over the next steps that will be taken to fill the position.
The first step taken was approving the South Central Service Cooperative to conduct the administrative search, with advertisement for the position being held for 30 days beginning April 1st.
The final application reviews will be held in the beginning of May with zoom meetings with top candidates throughout the month, the hold in person interviews the week of June 16th or 23rd. If there is an acceptable candidate, the council would vote on an employment agreement at the next council meeting.
As the timeline is set, the City hopes to have a new Administrator in place by late July or early August.
