Good Thunder’s longtime mayor was sentenced to probation and community service Tuesday related to a conflict of interest charge dating back to 2022.
Sixty eight year old Robert John Anderson received a stay of adjudication on a gross misdemeanor conviction, meaning it would be dismissed upon completion of probation and community service, according to a sentencing order. Judge Kristine Weeks credited him with three days served in jail after his arrest in October 2022, resulting in no jail time.
Anderson has been mayor of Good Thunder since 1992, most recently winning reelection unopposed in November.
The case against him stemmed in part from an August 25th, 2020 allegation of his hauling company receiving $1,723 from the city to transport gravel without City Council approval. Six other charges, ranging from embezzlement to theft by swindle, to more conflicts of interest between Anderson’s business interests and city businesses, were dismissed as part of a plea deal.
