Multiple pets died and a home has been destroyed following an early Tuesday morning fire in Freeborn.
The Freeborn Volunteer Fire Department responded to a home at 201 Part Street after 1am.
While the owners, Brandon and Megan Peterson and their children were staying at a nearby hotel at the time of the blaze, five dogs and four cats were inside.
Firefighters say all of the pets were killed before the flames could be extinguished.
The Petersons had purchased the property last month and were working to update the interior of the home before officially moving in.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
