B.E. Council Discusses Water Issues for Two Nicollet Street Houses

The Blue Earth City Council met Monday and they received an update from City Engineer Ben Rosol on the water issues at 523 Nicollet Street.

Two residents on the street have been running their sump pumps continuously for months.  They said this was never an issue until the street and utility project was done on Nicollet Street three years ago.

Rosol said after exploratory trenching was completed onsite and it was determined that the source of the water is believed to be groundwater and not a result of a broken or leaking pipe.

The solution Rosol presented to the council was to build a new pipeline from the houses to a drainage area to the west.  The cost of the project was estimated to be just under $75,000.

After a lengthy discussion, the council voted 6-1 to move forward with the work and add the cost to the 2025 Street Project.
