A former high school coach, accused of having sex with a student, is taking a plea deal.
Thirty five year old Richard John Polley, of Albert Lea, was charged in January 2022 with third degree criminal sexual conduct. Polley, a former school counselor and former coach of the girls basketball team, was arrested for having a relationship with a teenage student that started with them speaking at school and evolved to communicating through Snapchat.
Investigators say the victim eventually went to Polley’s home and had sex with him.
Polley has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of fourth degree criminal sexual conduct. His sentencing is set for January 29, 2025.
After his arrest, Polley was placed on paid administrative leave and was later fired during a meeting of the Albert Lea School Board.
