The Faribault County Board of Commissioners met Tuesday morning and one of the items on the agenda was hearing from the Minnesota Patriots 4 America group proposing a resolution opposing the proposed North Star Act, which would protect immigrants in the state of Minnesota by prohibiting state and local law enforcement from using state resources for the purpose of civil immigration enforcement.
Commissioner Greg Young says the about 25 people from the group attended the meeting and presented a resolution to the Commissioners and a petition with about 1000 signatures, to not allow Faribault County to be a sanctuary county.
Young says the board had some concerns about the resolution and about the North Star Act, that if it passes at the state level and Faribault County has passed this resolution, that it will result in the loss of state funding.
Young says there is some doubt whether the North Star Act will even pass at the state level, but the Commissioners still passed the resolution on a 4 to 1 vote.
