Harvest Progress in MN & Iowa Advancing Rapidly Thanks to Favorable Weather

The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service released the crop progress report for Minnesota and Iowa for the week ending October 6th.  Harvest, fall tillage and fertilizer applications kept farmers busy in their fields.

In Minnesota, 97% of corn was in the dent stage, 82% was mature and harvest was 15% complete, with an average moisture content of 19%.   Corn condition was rated 63% good to excellent.  Iowa corn is 90% mature, 5 days ahead of average and harvest is 22% complete, with moisture content averaging 18%.  Iowa corn condition remained the same as last week, with 77% rated good to excellent.

Soybeans in Minnesota are 98% coloring or beyond, leaves dropping is at 91% and harvest is 68% completed, compared with 35% last week.  In Iowa, 93% of soybeans are dropping leaves and harvest 58% completed, compared to 27% the previous week.  Iowa soybean condition dropped 1% from last week to 76% good to excellent.
