Minnesota’s Corn and Soybean Condition Declines, While Iowa’s Remains About the Same, According to the USDA

The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service released the crop progress report for Minnesota and Iowa for the week ending September 8th.  Field activities included chopping corn for silage and harvest of small grains, sugarbeets and potatoes in Minnesota and in Iowa, activities included hay cutting and chopping corn for silage.

In Minnesota, corn in the dough stage was 93%, 55% was in the dent state, 5 days behind the five year average and 12% was mature, with 58% rated in good to excellent condition, an 8% decrease from last week.  Corn for silage was at 19%.  Iowa corn was 96% in the dough stage or beyond, 74% has reached the dent stage, 2 days behind average, with 20% mature and 77% of corn was rated in good to excellent condition, the same compared to last week.

Soybeans in Minnesota are 96% setting pods, 33% of soybeans are coloring, 6 days behind average, 4% are dropping leaves and 62% are rated in good to excellent condition, a 4% decline from last week.  In Iowa, soybeans were 97% setting pods, 42% were coloring, 1 day behind average, 9% are dropping leaves and 78% of Iowa’s soybeans were rated good to excellent, 1% better than last week.
