A Bricelyn man faces multiple charges after leading law enforcement on a pursuit on Wednesday night.
According to the Faribault County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 9:53pm, a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on a 2006 Chevrolet Impala for an equipment violation in at 530th Avenue and 30th Street in rural Bricelyn. The Impala was being driven by 24 year old Challen Alfredo Bena-Hernandez.
Bena-Hernandez ignored the deputy’s emergency lights and sirens and continued driving south on 530th Avenue into Winnebago County, Iowa. Deputies pursued the vehicle through Iowa for about 21 miles before the vehicle reentered Minnesota on Highway 22 where Bena-Hernandez rammed a squad pickup twice during attempts to stop him.
The chase continued into Kiester, where the vehicle was pursued through streets and alleyways before leaving the city westbound on 35th Street.
As the pursuit went through the intersection of 560th Avenue, Bena-Hernandez lost control of his vehicle, struck a second squad pickup and went into the ditch. After the vehicle entered the ditch, a third squad pickup made contact with the Impal to keep Bena-Hernandez from fleeing.
Bena-Hernandez was arrested and transported to the Faribault County Jail, where he’s bing held on the following probable cause charges; 1st degree DWI, fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, attempted deadly force on a peace officer, 2nd degree assault with a dangerous weapon and 1st degree criminal damage to property, all are felonies, along with gross misdemeanor driving after cancellation.
There were no injuries reported in the pursuit.
