MN & Iowa’s Corn Condition Decreases Last Week, according to the USDA

The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistic Service released the crop progress report for Minnesota and Iowa for the week ending August 25th.

Field activities included chopping corn for silage and harvest of small grains, sugar beets and potatoes in Minnesota and in Iowa, activities included small grain harvest, cutting and bailing hay and preparing for fall harvest.

In Minnesota, corn in the dough stage was 78%, 3 days behind average, 19% was in the dent stage and 5% was mature.  Corn condition was rated 60% good to excellent condition, a 1% decrease from last week.  Iowa corn was 90% in the dough stage or beyond, 1 day ahead of average, 45% has reached the dent stage and 4% was mature.  Iowa corn was rated 77% good to excellent, the same as last week.

Soybeans in Minnesota are 89% setting pods, 8 days behind average, with 5% of soybeans coloring.  Soybean condition was rated 63% good to excellent, a 1% decline from last week.  In Iowa, soybeans were 90% setting pods, 3 days behind the 5 year average and 5% of soybeans are turning color, 2 days behind average.  Iowa’s soybean crop was rated 77% good to excellent, the same compared to last week.
