The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service released the crop progress report for Minnesota and Iowa for the week ending August 4th. Field Activities included small grain harvest, cutting and bailing hay and applying fungicides.
In Minnesota, corn silking was 81%, 5 days behind the 5 year average, 31% was in dough stage and 58% of corn was rated good to excellent condition, remaining the same as last week. Iowa corn was 92% silking, equal to the 5 year average, 51% was in the dough stage or beyond, 3 days ahead of average, 8% has reached the dent stage and 77% of corn was rated good to excellent, the same as last week.
Soybeans in Minnesota are 83% blooming, 7 days behind the five year average, with 48% setting pods, 63% of beans were rated good to excellent, a 3% improvement from last week. In Iowa, soybeans were 90% blooming, with 58% setting pods, 3 days behind the five year average Seventy six percent of Iowa beans were rated good to excellent, remaining the same as last week.
