Area voters went to the polls to cast ballots in Tuesday’s primary election in Iowa.
There were a couple of contest Republican primaries for positions on the Kossuth County Board of Supervisors. In District Two, Howard Haas received 140 votes to defeat Will Struecker who received 78. In District Five, Amber Garman received 173 votes to defeat Dennis Higgins, who received 98 and Christian Schlaefer, who received 62 votes. Also, incumbent Roger Fisher easily won the Republican Primary for Sheriff, receiving 1,172 votes compared to 463 for Brian Runneberg.
In Emmet County, four Republican candidates were running for three seats up for election on the Board of Supervisors. Incumbent Lisa Hanson received the most votes with 525, followed by Incumbent Tim Schumacher with 436 votes. Brandon Carlin also advanced to the general election with 434. Michael Pytleski finished 4th with 327. Incumbent Todd Glassnap was unopposed in the Democrat’s primary.
In the Republican Primary for Emmet County Sheriff, Justin Schultes defeated Jeffrey Merrill by a margin of 58% to 41.5%. Schultes received 438 votes, while Merrill had 314.
There was one contested race in Dickinson County. For the District Three seat on the Board of Supervisors, Steve Dullard defeated Incumbent Jeff Thee by a margin of 64% to 36%. Dullard received 167 votes compared to 94 for Thee.
