On Tuesday, Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 300 block of Fairgrounds Street in Garden City a report of a motor vehicle theft. A resident reported that someone drove away in his 2000 Chevy S-10 Blazer.
Deputies located the stolen Blazer on Highway 169, about 3 miles south of Garden City, with the owner’s son following in another vehicle.
The suspect initially pulled over but refused to comply with commands from the Deputies and fled in the vehicle. The pursuit went south on Highway 169 into Faribault County at speeds between 50 and 75 mph. The Faribault County Sheriff’s Office joined the pursuit and assisted in boxing in the suspect and bringing the Blazer to a stop about a mile north of Winnebago.
The driver of the stolen vehicle, 34 year old Phillip Gregory Johnson of South St. Paul, was arrested and is being held in the Blue Earth County Jail on charges of motor vehicle theft and fleeing police in a motor vehicle. There was no property damage and no one was injured in the pursuit.
